Mount Bonnell

A short and sweet hiking trail located right outside of the city of Austin is Mount Bonnell. While the total distance is only a half-mile, the views from the top of the lookout are worth the short venture. Bring a snack and take in the sweeping views of the Colorado River and surrounding riverside neighborhood. 

Barton Creek Greenbelt

Whether you’re looking to hike for a few short miles or tackle the entire 12-mile trail system, Barton Creek Greenbelt offers some of the best spring hiking and biking activities for every adventure level. Starting at Zilker Park, the trail weaves its way through the outskirts of Austin and is a popular hub for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. 

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge

If you’re looking to spend some time close to nature and enjoy the joys of spring, a great spot tucked an hour’s drive outside of Austin is Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. While the trails are not open to biking, the opportunities for hiking and flora and fauna viewing are endless. There’s nothing that says spring like quaint local streets filled with tents and tables offering fresh flowers, vegetables, produce, or handmade goods. The Sustainable Food Center Farmer’s Market is open on Saturdays and conveniently has a Downtown and Sunset Valley location. If you can’t make it on Saturday, don’t worry – the Texas Farmer’s Market at Mueller is open on Sundays and is located just Northeast of Austin.

Zilker Park

This 350-acre park lies in the heart of Austin and is a popular spot for residents and visitors looking to partake in the city’s lively and entertaining outdoor festivities. The park hosts large events throughout the Spring and Summer months and is also home to famed attractions such as Zilker Botanical Gardens, Umlauf Sculpture Garden, and Barton Springs Pool. 

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
